Toolbox

We use the most modern and effective combination of technologies available to develop improved plants that help enhance environmental and human health. These technologies include high-throughput screening, advanced plant breeding and precise genetic engineering.

At the genomic level, TILLING® enables Arcadia researchers to discover variation by specifically identifying a "knockdown" or "knockout" of any specific gene. Knockdowns in specific genes produce a reduction of function that is often sufficient to result in a desired trait.

TILLING® was developed in the Basic Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in late 1999.

Reducing Nitrogen
Usage

Arcadia Biosciences has conducted field trials in five growing seasons. In each field trial, Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) canola demonstrated that it can achieve high yields using significantly less nitrogen fertilizer than conventional varieties. In the chart above, note that NUE canola yielded 2800 lb/ac using two-thirds less nitrogen fertilizer than the conventional variety needed to generate the same yield.
